So, I’m jogging down the street working on my mile time average and I notice this sign in my neighbors’ yard…
My first impression: Fairly informative. Green. The stars make me feel a touch patriotic – if not a little ill, and the checkbox let’s me know how it might look after I’ve placed my vote.
I jog on my way and don’t give it a second thought until I’m swept off my feet by this beauty…
Holy crap! Red, white and blue color scheme (likely the exact CMYK colors of old glory). A star. A torch. A thoughtful font. A purposeful use of font size. My eyes are led from left to right diagonally, helplessly taking in the information.
I lap the block (I’m not gonna improve my mile average today, btw) and see the green sign again. Man, that’s a lot of space between her first and last name, isn’t it? I can see right through that sign, too. I think to myself… “If I were to vote for my cities’ council members on sign-making prowess alone, Teresa would get my vote.” I wonder if there are people who would cast their vote for the candidate with the best looking sign? I’ll try not to be so judgmental when it comes to making the decision as to who will be representing my civic interests. However, I will be reading all of the flyers the candidates will surely affix to my front door before I decide which one gets my support.
And those flyers had better be shining examples of excellent graphic design.
